You will scope a process, create readable maps, collect evidence, analyze waste and risks, and communicate improvements with simple metrics and a clear story. After this training you will be confident in:

  • Choosing the right map type for the audience and goal
  • Drawing clean SIPOC, basic flow, and swimlane maps
  • Finding bottlenecks, rework, and handoff issues with data
  • Presenting improvements with a small set of measures and next steps

Module 1: Foundations and scoping a process

  • Process vs procedure vs work instruction in plain language
  • Define purpose, start and end, customers and outcomes
  • SIPOC to align on suppliers, inputs, process, outputs, customers
  • Set a simple success measure and a fact finding plan

Module 2: Mapping techniques that people can read

  • Basic flow map symbols and when to keep it simple
  • Swimlanes for roles, systems, and handoffs
  • Tips for naming, flow direction, spacing, and alignment
  • House style checklist so maps look consistent

Module 3: Gathering facts and pain points

  • Capture steps, variants, and exceptions from front line views
  • Time, volume, and error data at a beginner level
  • Spot rework loops, queues, and unclear decision points
  • Record risks, controls, and compliance needs

Module 4: Analyze what the map is telling you

  • Bottlenecks, wait times, and batching trade offs
  • Waste types like overprocessing, motion, and overproduction
  • Root cause basics using 5 Whys and simple cause or effect notes
  • Prioritize issues by impact and ease

Module 5: Redesign principles and quick wins

  • Remove, simplify, standardize before you automate
  • Clearer handoffs, roles, and decision rules
  • Error proofing ideas and better forms or inputs
  • Define quick wins vs larger changes

Module 6: Light metrics and readiness to change

  • Choose few measures lead and lag that fit the goal
  • Baseline and target with realistic ranges
  • Risk, compliance, and control updates after redesign
  • Simple experiment or pilot outline

Module 7: Document and align with stakeholders

  • Before or after map pair and short narrative
  • RACI snapshot for responsibilities
  • Change impacts on people, tools, and data
  • Feedback plan and agreement on next steps

Module 8: Handover and sustaining improvements

  • Action list with owners, dates, and checkpoints
  • Visual management ideas for ongoing tracking
  • Versioning, storage, and access to process assets
  • Review cadence and continuous improvement loop
