A compact, practical introduction to Shopware for technically confident users. The course focuses on the main concepts needed to understand how a Shopware shop works, how the Store API is used, how cart and checkout flows are structured, and how to navigate the Administration. Participants also receive a practical overview of setting up and running a Shopware environment for learning, testing or early project work.

You will understand the core building blocks of a Shopware project and how customer-facing commerce processes work. You will practise basic Store API requests, inspect cart and checkout behaviour, and learn how Administration settings influence the shop experience. You will also gain a practical overview of local setup, configuration, logs, updates and operational basics.

Module 2: Local setup and working environment

  1. Starting a local Shopware environment
  2. Accessing Storefront and Administration
  3. Understanding environment files, logs, cache and basic services
  4. Using prepared demo data for practical exercises
  5. Common setup problems and troubleshooting steps

Module 3: Store API fundamentals

  1. Purpose of the Store API in customer-facing commerce flows
  2. Sales channel access keys, request headers and context tokens
  3. Reading product, category and listing data
  4. Testing API calls with Postman, Insomnia, curl or an IDE client
  5. Practical exercise: retrieve product and listing data through the Store API

Module 4: Customer context and cart basics

  1. Anonymous and logged-in customer contexts
  2. Customer registration and login flow at a high level
  3. Creating and maintaining a cart context
  4. Adding, changing and removing cart line items
  5. Practical exercise: build and inspect a cart through API requests

Module 5: Checkout and payment concepts

  1. Required data before checkout can be completed
  2. Shipping method, payment method, address and customer context
  3. How cart calculation affects checkout
  4. Creating an order from a cart
  5. Payment handling concepts, redirects and external providers
  6. Practical exercise: follow a complete cart-to-order flow in a test shop

Module 6: Administration for technical users

  1. Navigating the Shopware Administration
  2. Managing products, categories, customers and orders
  3. Sales channels, domains, currencies, languages, taxes and rules
  4. Basic order review and status handling
  5. User roles, permissions and safe administration practices

Module 7: Admin API and integration overview

  1. When the Admin API is used instead of the Store API
  2. Authentication and backend access concepts
  3. Reading and managing entities such as products, customers and orders
  4. Import, export and synchronisation use cases
  5. Integration examples: ERP, PIM, payment provider, fulfilment system

Module 8: Basic DevOps and shop operations

  1. Local, staging and production environments
  2. Configuration, secrets and environment variables
  3. Cache, queues, scheduled tasks, database and search basics
  4. Logs, troubleshooting and common operational issues
  5. Updates, backups, rollback thinking and security basics

Final workshop: end-to-end mini scenario
