  • Preparing Excel data as Tables and ranges that import cleanly
  • Using Power Query to combine sheets and fix common issues
  • Modeling with relationships and a basic calendar for dates
  • Creating clear visuals and a one page report
  • Publishing to the Power BI Service and refreshing from Excel sources

Requirements:

  • Power BI Desktop on Windows and access to the Power BI Service
  • Excel files you can use as non sensitive examples
  • Comfort with basic spreadsheet concepts

Module 1: Bring Excel data into Power BI

  • Workbook structure that imports well Tables, named ranges, and headers
  • Getting data from Excel files local, OneDrive, SharePoint
  • Power Query basics detect headers, set data types, remove errors
  • Combine sheets or files and keep steps repeatable

Module 2: Shape and model for analysis

  • Clean columns split, trim, merge and standardize categories
  • Star like modeling facts and lookup tables in simple terms
  • Relationships, cardinality, and filter direction without surprises
  • Calendar table basics for date filters and simple comparisons

Module 3: Visuals that answer questions

  • Core visuals bar, line, table, matrix, map at a glance
  • Sorting, number formats, labels, and tooltips for clarity
  • Slicers and basic drill actions users understand
  • Beginner DAX for measures SUM, COUNTROWS, simple ratios with DIVIDE

Module 4: Share and refresh

  • Build a one page report with consistent layout and titles
  • Publish to the Power BI Service and organize a workspace
  • Refresh from Excel sources scheduled and on demand
  • Simple handover checklist file location, permissions, version notes
