Excel for Analysts

An intermediate course focused on cleaning data faster, writing robust formulas, and building clear summaries. Participants learn reliable patterns for Tables, lookups, PivotTables, and Power Query so everyday analysis takes minutes instead of hours.

What will you learn?

You will structure messy data into Tables, write lookups that do not break, summarize with PivotTables and PivotCharts, and build a lightweight refreshable report using Power Query.

After this training you will be confident in:

  • Turning ranges into structured Excel Tables for safer formulas and filters
  • Writing modern lookups with XLOOKUP and INDEX with MATCH
  • Building PivotTables with slicers and simple PivotCharts for stakeholders
  • Using Power Query to import, combine, and clean data with one click refresh
  • Applying data validation, conditional formatting, and error checks

Requirements:

  • Excel Microsoft 365 or Excel 2019 on Windows or macOS
  • Comfort with basic formulas like SUM, AVERAGE, and IF
  • Bring a few non sensitive examples similar to your work

Module 1: Data you can trust

  • From ranges to Excel Tables for structured references
  • Text cleanup with TRIM, CLEAN, TEXTSPLIT, TEXTBEFORE, TEXTAFTER
  • Dates and numbers that behave correctly and locale tips
  • Data validation, drop downs, and consistent categories

Module 2: Formulas that scale

  • XLOOKUP for exact, approximate, and reverse lookups
  • INDEX with MATCH for flexible two way retrieval
  • IF, IFS, and logical tests with ISBLANK and error handling with IFERROR
  • TEXT functions for labels and dynamic titles and basic dynamic arrays like FILTER and UNIQUE

Module 3: PivotTables that answer questions

  • Building PivotTables from Tables and grouping by date or category
  • Slicers and timelines for quick filtering and drill downs
  • PivotCharts that communicate clearly and simple number formatting
  • Quick measures like running totals and percent of total

Module 4: Refreshable reports with Power Query

  • Importing data from CSV or Excel files and folders
  • Cleaning steps such as split columns, types, merges, and appending tables
  • Load to Table or Pivot and one click refresh pattern
  • Hand off checklist and simple performance tips
